In this lesson, you are going to read a Part 2 topic and a sample answer to give you an idea how to organise your talk on this specific subject.

Spend 1 minute to plan so that you stay on the subject while talking.

Describe a website you like to visit a lot. (Heading)

You should say:
  • the name of the website and how often you visit it (Point 1)
  • what the website is about (Point 2)
  • what you do on the website (Point 3)
and explain why you like it. (Point 4)

Tips:
  • Make brief notes about the heading “a website I like to visit” and each of the 4 points.
  • Just write a few words to help you remember what to say on each point.
  • Your notes will help you organise your ideas and prepare your mind for speaking.
  • Speak for roughly 30 seconds on each of the 4 points you have made notes about.
  • You need to keep an eye contact with the examiner while speaking, and only occasionally look at your notes.

Notes:

A website I like to visit

Name and visit:
  • YouTube
  • every day

What it is about:
  • video sharing

What I do:
  • watch TV series and vlogs

Why I like it:
  • educational
  • explore the world

A website I love to visit is YouTube. Well, most people know about this one since it's one of the most visited sites in the world. I visit it every day and it's so addictive that I can spend hours on it.

YouTube is basically designed for video sharing and it makes viewing and uploading videos quite easy. What I like about YouTube is that I can find and play different types of video content - anything from TV series, DYI (Do it yourself videos), vlogs, and so on. A vlog is basically a video blog.

Personally, I cannot afford to go on holiday or travel abroad, so for me travel vlogs are a good way to find out about places around the world and what life there is like. Every time I watch this type of video, it feels like I'm visiting the place with the vlogger because they share their experience with their audience.

I can subscribe to channels I'm interested in and be notified whenever there is a new video. Also, I can show my appreciation for the content by clicking the 'like' button below the video. I think that's a great way to show that you fully appreciate someone's efforts to record and share videos on a platform like YouTube.

As for why I like it, I think it's an amazing way to explore the world through videos as well as keep myself up to date with anything educational and interesting.

VOCABULARY
  • quite easy | fairly easy (collocations) (Example: It is fairly easy to shop online.)
  • go on holiday - (collocation) (Example: We were excited about going on holiday.)

  • show your appreciation | express your appreciation (collocation)
  • fully appreciate something (collocation) (Example: I fully appreciate your help.)
  • keep someone up to date with/on something (phrase) - to inform someone of the most recent news and changes in a situation

A possession I couldn't live without

What it is:
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • widescreen multi-touch display

How I got it:
  • my mother bought it
  • my graduation
  • good/reputable university

When/How often I use it:
  • every day; multitasking
  • reading, listening to music

Why it is special:
  • fast search
  • convenient

I’m going to talk about a possession I have which I find extremely useful and that’s my iPhone 6 Plus. To begin with, it has a widescreen multi-touch display that is very clear. What I like about this model is how beautifully designed it is.

I’ve always been a fan of Apple’s smartphones and I really wanted to have this one. I was lucky enough to receive it as a present from my mother because she wanted to reward me for my efforts after I graduated from high school, and was offered a place at a reputable university. I was in luck because at that time there was a very good discount at the shopping mall I often go to. That was the perfect opportunity for me to have it and my mother actually bought it for me.

I’ve been using my phone ever since. I use it from the moment I wake up and I take it anywhere with me. I find it extremely convenient for reading some novels and listening to music because of its multi-touch screen. I can easily switch from one app to another and this makes the phone perfect for multitasking.

And why it is so special? Well, I love using my phone to search online and this specific model is extremely fast and I can easily access online content within seconds.

VOCABULARY
  • find something useful (collocation)
  • get/receive a present (collocation)
  • reward somebody for something
  • get/be offered a place at university (phrase)

  • convenient for someone/something
  • switch between apps | switch from one app to another

IELTS Speaking Part 2: Describe an area of your country that is well known for its natural beauty

In this lesson, you are going to read a Part 2 topic and a sample answer to give you an idea how to organise your talk on this specific subject.

Spend 1 minute to plan so that you stay on the subject while talking.

Describe an area of your country that is well known for its natural beauty. (Heading)

You should say:
  • where this area is (Point 1)
  • what people can see and do there (Point 2)
  • how you can get there (Point 3)
and explain why this area is considered to be so beautiful. (Point 4)

Tips:
  • Make brief notes about the heading “Natural beauty” and each of the 4 points.

Notes:

Natural beauty

Where:
  • Jiuzhaigou
  • Sichuan Province

What to do and see:
  • lakes and waterfalls
  • take photos

How to get there:
  • buy a ticket
  • walk or take a bus

Why it is beautiful:
  • scenery
  • colourful foliage, crystal water

I'm going to talk about an amazing place in my country called Jiuzhaigou*. It's a nature reserve and national park, located in the northern part of Sichuan Province. It is considered one of the most beautiful parks on Earth. I know that it has been inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. This place is complete with forest, waterfalls and lakes. It's made up of three valleys.

Jiuzhaigou is the top tourist destination in Sichuan Province. To visit the park, you first need to buy a ticket, which is a bit over $30. Well, it's a bit expensive, but I think it's definitely worth it.

People can walk or take a bus if they don't like walking for hours. There are wooden walkways that line the path to the lakes and waterfalls. Tourists can get as close to nature as possible. As you keep walking, you see more and more beautiful lakes and rivers. Even though the distance seems long, there are many places along the way where you can rest and take pictures.

I think Jiuzhaigou is a natural wonder with beautiful scenery. What's interesting is that the water falling from a cliff looks just like a curtain, and reflects the light. The best time to visit the park is in autumn, especially in October, when the forest is covered with red and golden leaves and the bright colours reflect on the surface of the lakes.

* Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park

IELTS Speaking Part 2: Describe your perfect holiday

In this lesson, you are going to read a Part 2 topic and a sample answer to give you an idea how to organise your talk on this specific subject.

Spend 1 minute to plan so that you stay on the subject while talking.

Describe your perfect holiday. (Heading)

You should say:
  • where you would go and who you would go with (Point 1)
  • where you would stay (Point 2)
  • what you would do (Point 3)
and explain why it would be the perfect holiday. (Point 4)

Tips:
  • Make brief notes about the heading “My perfect holiday” and each of the 4 points.

Notes:

My perfect holiday

Where I would go and who with:
  • beach holiday
  • with my parents

Where I would stay:
  • beach resort

What I would do:
  • family entertainment
  • water sports

Why it is special:
  • family time

For me, the perfect holiday would be one spent with my parents, because I now live in a different city and we don't get to see each other very often. I really miss spending time with them, and that's why whenever we get the chance, we go on family holidays.

For us, the perfect holiday would be a relaxing beach holiday. Even though the summer tends to be the busiest tourist season, we would most probably go to a beach resort to enjoy the beautiful summer weather. We much prefer hot weather, because my parents live in a city in the north part of China where the weather is much colder than most regions in the country.

As for where we would go, I don't think we would have any specific destination in mind, because for us the most important part of going on holiday is spending time together. We could travel by car or plane, and we could go anywhere we liked. We are like those types of travellers who prefer to plan their route and make any necessary changes on the go.

We definitely like trying different activities as well as food. So, if we decided to go to a beach resort, we would choose a place with plenty of family entertainment on offer and we would do some water sports, like scuba diving, for example.

VOCABULARY
  • get/have the chance to do something (collocation)
  • a family holiday | a beach holiday (collocations)
  • a beach resort (collocation) - (Example: We stayed at a relaxing beach resort.)
  • summer weather | hot weather
  • go on holiday (collocation)
  • plan your route (collocation) - (Example: We studied the map and planned our route.)
  • make a change (collocation)
  • on the go (phrase) (informal) - quickly while doing some other activity
  • family entertainment (collocation) - suitable for children and adults
